‍ ‍I have always aspired to make a difference in this world. The morals and values instilled in me, along with my personal struggles, have helped shape the path God has called me to walk today. As one of my favorite scriptures reads, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. -Philippians 4:13

Born on the West Side of Chicago and later raised on the South Side, alcohol and drugs were not outside the norm in my environment. My parents, other family members, and I have all faced challenges related to substance use, mental health, or both at different points in our lives.

I stepped outside my ‘norm’ and sought therapy. In 2011, God revealed another path for my life by blessing me with my first master’s degree. This marked the beginning of my journey into the addictions field. In 2020, I became a Licensed Clinical Addiction Counselor, and in 2022 I earned my second master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling.

In today’s society, therapy and seeking help for mental health and/or addiction remain stigmatized. Many people avoid reaching out due to fear of judgment or misunderstanding, even though support is essential for recovery and well-being. Seeing the many adversities in my community motivated me to take action and become part of the solution.

Marilyn’s W.A.R.C. (Wellness and Recovery Center), L.L.C, was officially incorporated in the state of Indiana in August 2021. With more than 15 years of experience, I provide counseling services to individuals impacted by a substance use or co-occurring disorder. My organization is grounded in faith-based principles and provides holistic care that addresses the needs of the whole person. This approach supports individuals in maintaining overall wellness and sustaining long-term recovery.

Blessings,

Marilyn
